DEVENS (CBS) — A team composed mainly of Boston Transit Police officers competed in the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s MuckFest fund-raiser Saturday.

Officer Richard Donahue, who nearly bled to death from a bullet wound suffered during the Watertown shootout with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects, was planning to run with the “Thin Blue Swine” team. Members of the team ran “in honor of Officer Donahue and on behalf of family members and thousands of others who have MS in Massachusetts,” according to a prepared statement from the nonprofit.

About 3,000 people took on the 5-mile-long obstacle course.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has a 50-state network of chapters. The group helps people affected by MS through funding cutting-edge research, driving change through advocacy, facilitating professional education, and providing programs and services that help people with MS and their families.
